Provides assistant to CDM or Chef in a variety of support functions within the performance of assigned kitchen duties. He/She washes dishes, run the dishwasher, cleans-up kitchen, takes out the trash, sweeps/mop kitchen and dining room floor, assist chef with plating of food, making coffee, serving food to diners and the setup of the dining hall for meals. They help to maintain an environment that is clean, safe, comfortable and organized in a manner that will assure efficient meal service and encourage older persons to participate at the meal site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with prep work for meals, helps with plating of food, serves diners, washes dishes, clean up meal area and kitchen, and takes out trash.
Ensure adherence to all applicable health codes and proper food handling techniques.
Work with center staff, volunteers, and site supervisor to address special needs/concerns of the site.
Attend meetings as able to facilitate information sharing between the project administration offices, site staff, participants and volunteers.
Demonstrate an eagerness to learn and enhance skills that promote cultural competence.
Participates in events related to understanding institutional racism and building cultural competence.
Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and participants read and interpret documents such as menus, food labels, food preparation instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, interpret data.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form, problem solve with kitchen staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for many hours. The employee is frequently required to use hands to sort, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is a food production facility. The employee works in a sometimes hot, humid and cold kitchen area. The area may become congested and noisy during busy times. The employee also may work with any of the following: stoves, griddle, steam cookers, refrigerators, freezers, food mixers, food processors, meat slicers, dishwashing equipment, sinks, knives and various utensils, pots and pans. Work hazards include hot surfaces, steam, wet floors, hot oil, heavy lifting, knives and other sharp objects, mechanical equipment and cleaning chemicals.
