Central Area Senior Center, (CASC), The Central, is a mid-size 501 c 3 nonprofit organization looking to hire its next Program Coordinator (PC). The PC manages a full range of social, educational, recreational and health activities at the Central Area Senior Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement programs that serve the needs of seniors in the community.

  2. Serves as the liaison to program staff, professional and volunteers. Coordinates, schedules, and oversees the implementation of program activities. Responds to the supply needs of instructors and volunteers. Maintains inventory of program supplies.

  3. Plan for the efficient use and care of the center, its equipment, and supplies. Maintain awareness of safety factors and regulations that promote a safe, comfortable, and attractive environment for participants.

  4. Establish effective relationships with other community groups for partnerships and collaborations and understands the importance of partnering to maximize the efficiency of how to share and use community resources.

  5. Organize center publicity, which may include, newsletters, flyers, invitations, website, phone calls to members, vendors and community, press releases, social media, special events and a variety of marketing efforts.

  6. Primary staff responsible to recruit, train, and supervise paid program instructors and volunteers, working in conjunction with center staff.

  7. Set up, take down and move furniture, equipment and supplies as needed.

  8. In conjunction with the other senior center staff, and board, plan, organize, prepare, and set up fund-raising events and other special events.

  9. In conjunction with other senior center staff, shares information about the facility rental program. This may include showing the facility, facilitating, and maintaining contracts, collecting deposits, and arranging for facility rental coverage.

  10. Works with volunteers and staff to ensure that all program and activities information of participants are entered in Salesforce daily.

  11. Updates and creates class rosters for existing programs and activities to provide to instructors. Enters daily information into Salesforce.

  12. Maintains regular and reliable attendance and punctuality at their designated worksite to support business operations, team goals and the public.

  13. Relieves front desk receptionist at a regular assigned shift during the week.

  14. Provides general administrative support to the center director for the generation

  15. of program reports and narratives to support demographic requirements for City,

  16. County, government, and funder reports.

  17. Demonstrate an eagerness to learn and enhance skills that acknowledge job growth and

  18. understanding of the position and that promote equity and inclusion.

  19. Other duties as necessary and assigned.


  1. Supervised by the Senior Center Director.

  2. Maintains positive working relationships with Senior Center staff and volunteers and others in the community.

Supervisory Responsibility

  1. This position supervises volunteers and instructors.

Education & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in recreation, social work, education or related field, or comparable experience.

  2. Four years’ experience working with seniors and/or older adults in a facility-based program.

  3. Supervisory experience is desirable.

  4. Skills in publications, writing, social media and public speaking with a variety of audiences.

  5. Understands institutional racism and other forms of oppression.

Other Skills & Abilities

  1. Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles, (e.g., low income, BIPOC, frail, disabled, GLBTQ).

  2. Ability to respond to multiple demands in a courteous and effective manner.

  3. Proficient with Microsoft Office, spreadsheet programs (Word and Excel), publication software, Social Media, such as Instagram, Face Book, Twitter, Pinterest; Snapchat and knowledge of video, film, print techniques is desirable.

  4. Valid Washington State Driver’s license, and access to an insured vehicle.

  5. Ability to work flexible hours, some nights, and weekends.

  6. Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read documents, author reports and correspondence, speak effectively with persons who may be hard of hearing. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math functions including multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, percentages, and spreadsheet formulas.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to problem solve and prioritize.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly needs to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee regularly stands and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The job has distractions from noise, seniors wanting to interact with staff to share ideas and thoughts in a rapidly paced and temperature regulated environment with a moderate noise level.
