Summary:
Provides foot care services to older adults in a senior center setting.
Foot Care Specialist position will assist the CASC in its implement of the Evidence Based Health and Wellness Project to bring evidence-based health programming and foot care services to members of the CASC whose members reside throughout Seattle/King County. Using the Enhanced Based Health and Wellness model, the Registered Nurse/Foot Care Specialist will conduct health assessments and use motivational interviewing to help CASC members achieve meaningful health goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide preventative foot care services including foot observation, inspection and palpitation, alleviation of dry skin problems, foot soaks, nail trimming, and instructions in foot health maintenance.

Obtain a brief health history of clients with focus on issues related to foot care.

Obtain annual written consent from physician if client has diabetes, circulatory problems or other conditions that could lead to complications if the area around the nail becomes infected.

Perform brief examination of the feet to determine appropriate level of treatment.

Collaborate with and refer to physicians and podiatrists for follow up treatment as needed.

Making referrals to appropriate health care professionals (podiatrist, internist, nurse) when the following is observed:
a. Red or inflamed or open wound around the nail;
b. Cracked heels so that an open wound exists,
c. On blood thinners and nails are extremely thick and difficult to trim,
d. Other situations that go beyond the employee’s level of certification and training.
7. Teach the CASC’s clients how to care for feet and scheduling follow up visits.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

RN, LPN, AA Degree and/or Certification in Health Care with an emphasis on Foot Care, Training and understanding of preventative health services.

Experience, patience and willingness to work with and to provide essential services to older adults as clients.

Computer skills to include the use of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and/or Medical Records software to input and retrieve client information.
